Check your property record for errors that raise your tax bill
Your county's record of your home (square footage, bathrooms, lot size) drives its value. A wrong detail can mean a higher tax bill, and many offices will fix it.
Part of: How to appeal your property tax assessment
1. Copy this prompt
Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok (the free versions work), then replace the [highlighted brackets] with your details. Leave out account numbers and SSNs.
Here is my county's property record for my home: [PASTE FIELDS: living area, lot size, beds, baths, garage, basement, year built, condition]. Here's what my own documents say: [PASTE FROM APPRAISAL / PLANS / LISTING]. 1) List every mismatch in a table. 2) Tell me which ones are most likely to affect the assessed value. 3) Draft a short, polite correction request to the assessor that lists each error and the document that supports it. Don't guess at local deadlines; tell me to check them.

Why this works
The problem: Assessors value homes from records that can be wrong: extra square footage, a bathroom you don't have, a finished basement that isn't finished.
How AI helps: AI can compare your county's property record with your own documents (plans, appraisal, listing), flag mismatches, and draft a short correction request with the evidence listed.

Watch out for
- No verified AI-specific success story yet. This is a how-to guide built on official sources.
- Fixing a record error doesn't automatically lower your value; the office reviews it. Deadlines vary (Oregon's square-footage correction form, for example, must be filed by Dec 31 of the tax year).
- Errors can go both ways. If the record undercounts something, a review could raise the value.
